How to Prepare Your Plumbing System For a House Party
The warm seasons are among us! Spring starts March 20, 2023, and kicks off the cookout season. Before you have a party celebrating the warm weather, make sure your plumbing system is prepared.

Make Sure to Place a Trash Can Near the Toilet
Many products are used in the bathroom that should not be flushed down the toilet, such as feminine supplies, napkins, and baby wipes. Make sure your guests have a place to put their trash so that they don’t try to flush it down the toilet. Make sure there is a trash can visible near the toilet for guests to throw away their trash.
Keep a Plunger Near
Clogs can start small but turn into big problems. If left unchecked, one guest can clog the toilet and other guests can follow after causing soiled water to overflow onto the bathroom floor. Every flush can cause water damage and push the clog further into the pipes, making the problem worst. Keep a plunger near the toilet so they have easy access to it in case a clog happens.
Allow Guests to Use Multiple Bathrooms
If you live in a multiple-bathroom home, try to give guests access to more than one bathroom. If you’re having a house party with a handful of people, one-bathroom access can be tough on your plumbing. One toilet might not be able to handle constant use. Constant use is more likely to cause a clog because it can’t keep up. As well as, more than one guest may need to use the facilities at one time. Your toilets, plumbing, and friends/family will appreciate you in the long run.
Scrape Dishes Before Putting In the Sink
A house party or springtime cookout is the perfect time to serve food or have guests bring items for a putlock. If you plan on using reusable dishes, have a trash can or 2 available for guests to scrape food into when they are done eating. Do not rinse food into the disposal because fats, oils, and grease can clog your plumbing.
